Start No. 2: Trey Yesavage sharp in second minor league outing

by | Apr 13, 2025

East Carolina alum and Blue Jays prospect pitcher Trey Yesavage had a much better second minor league outing on Sunday.

Yesavage went four innings, gave up an earned run on three hits and struck out four for Dunedin in a 10-2 victory. In fact, his only real flaws were a pitch timer violation, some batters chasing after pitches that were balls and causing one batter to lose control of his bat after chasing a third strike.

He had 41 of his 55 pitches for strikes over 16 batters, coaxed four groundouts and a flyout.

Zach Worden of SportsNet.ca said he “generated 8 whiffs with his splitter, including this one:”

However, Marc Hulet saw it differently, saying “Yesavage really struggled to command his FB and a lot of those strikes were swings from overly-aggressive players. The young Marlins prospects bailed him out a lot. He’ll get creamed in AA if he pitches like that. Pic shows a K where he was nowhere near zone.”

Guess we’ll find out. His chances of advancing up the minor league ladder to Class AA is looking good right now. For the season he has eight strikeouts over 7.2 innings for a 1.17 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.

Fellow ECU alum Jacob Jenkins-Cowart started in right field for Jupiter. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout by Yesavage in the fourth inning. It was Yesavage’s last strikeout in his last inning of work.
