Pirates in baseball: Burleson, Cardinals tame Skenes, Pirates

Alec Burleson had a hand in helping the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 on Tuesday.

The ECU alum played at first base and was 1-for-4 with an RBI. He singled in the sixth inning to drive in Brendan Donovan to give St. Louis a 4-1 lead.

Burleson is now batting .278 for the season.

Trey Yesavage

The ECU alum and Toronto Blue Jays prospect made his first minor league start Tuesday vs. the Jupiter Hammerheads. He did not get the decision, pitching 3.2 innings with a hit, two runs (none earned), six walks and four strikeouts.

Ryan McCrystal

ECU alum and Daytona C/1B Ryan McCrystal had his first minor league homer in Tuesday’s 8-7 loss to Clearwater.

He was the designated hitter in this game and went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. His homer was a two-run shot in the seventh inning and gave Daytona a 7-0 lead at the time.

He also singled in a run in the second and scored one batter later.
