by | Jun 27, 2025

A familiar face is at the top of the leaderboard at the LIV Golf Dallas event.

East Carolina golf alum Harold Varner III is tied with 4Aces GC teammate Patrick Reed at 5-under-par after the first round of play, which began on Friday. Both golfers had six birdies and a bogey. Varner had birdies on No. 6, 7, 13, 15, 17 and 18.

Varner started off at No. 10 and had four birdies through the first nine holes. He hit two more birdies before a bogey ended his round and allowed Reed to catch him.

Reed had his bogey at No. 18 and bounced back with three birdies to close the gap and join Varner in the lead. Their first-round performances allowed 4Aces GC to hold a six-shot lead over Crushers GC in the team standings.
