by | Apr 25, 2025

Former East Carolina star Winston Wright Jr. doesn’t just have the Pirates on his mind during the NFL draft.

The Savannah, Ga., star is hopeful he’ll get drafted by a team either Friday or Saturday. The All-American return specialist has drawn interest from teams and is hopeful he’ll be selected during the seven-round, three-day event. The first round was held Thursday night. The draft continues Friday at 7 p.m.

“Growing up here, we’ve been doing this since literally football, man,” Wright Jr. told TV station WJCL’s Amy Zimmer. “That competitive nature follows you from high school, to college, and now to the next level. I love where I’m from. I try to represent it well — that’s a big part of why I do what I do.”

Wright’s bio at ECU includes:

Four-year letterman (2024/East Carolina, 2019-21/West Virginia) who played in 49 career games making 26 starts … Tallied 3,994 all-purpose yards (80.5 pg) … Scored 18 touchdowns (15 rcv, 3 kor) … Caught 187 total passes for 1,930 yards (10.3 ypc) to go along with 18 rushes for 99 yards (5.5 ypr) … Returned 75 kickoffs for 1,900 yards (25.3 average)

During his one year at ECU, he started 10 of 11 games, had 54 catches for 556 yards and eight touchdowns.

His ECU bio also listed:
