Tulane football coach staying, no longer candidate for UNC job

by | Dec 9, 2024

North Carolina has one less candidate on the list of possibilities to be the next head football coach.

Tulane coach Jon Sumrall intends to stay put as UNC remains in contact with Bill Belichick, according to a report from the New York Times. Belichick was interviewed for the job last week.

The newspaper reported, “Tulane football coach Jon Sumrall posted on social media Sunday night he intends to stay at the school after drawing interest from North Carolina, where mutual interest with former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick continued through the weekend.”
