Connor Norby had a big day at the plate and Jacob Jenkins-Cowart had his first at-bat during Wednesday’s Spring Training game for the Miami Marlins against the Washington Nationals.

Norby batted 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. He singled with one out in the first inning to plate Xavier Edwards and give Miami a 1-0 lead.
Norby singled again in the third inning to drive in Edwards again, giving the Marlins a 2-0 lead. Norby then scored on a homer by Rob Brantly to extend the lead to 5-0.
It was Norby’s first multi-hit and multi-hit RBI game in Spring Training.
Jenkins-Cowart came on for defense in the seventh inning, playing center field and batting third. His at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning. He struck out in the bottom of the ninth.
Washington rallied for an 8-7 win.
Alec Burleson gets two hits, run for Cardinals
ECU alum Alec Burleson had his best day of Spring Training in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 6-5 loss to the Houston Astros on Wednesday.
Burleson batted 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. He doubled in the third inning and scored on Ivan Herrera’s double to give St. Louis a 2-1 lead.
Burleson is now batting .235 in Spring Training (4-for-17).
Whisenhunt solid in relief
Carson Whisenhunt came on in relief for the San Francisco Giants in Wednesday’s win over the Arizona Diamondbacks and picked up his first hold.
He pitched two innings, coming on in the sixth inning. He got three straight outs, one of them a strikeout. In the seventh, he gave up a hit and threw a wild pitch then recorded three straight outs to end the frame.
Whisenhunt has a 0.00 ERA with two strikeouts in three innings in Spring Training.
