Report: QB at three previous schools verbally commits to ECU

A quarterback who had stops most recently at Northwestern along with Mississippi State and Vanderbilt has told ESPN he has verbally committed to play at East Carolina.

ESPN college football reporter Pete Thamel posted the news to his X account on Sunday evening.

Former Northwestern/Mississippi State/Vanderbilt quarterback Mike Wright tells ESPN he’s verbally committed to East Carolina. He plans to play quarterback for the Pirates. He’s started 16 career games over the three stops.”

The 6-foot-4 senior from Fayetteville, Ga., made his most recent stop at Northwestern last season. He threw for 354 yards (38 for 66, 57.6% completion rate) and no touchdowns with an interception. He was 19-for-35 for 156 yards and an interception in a 26-20 2OT loss against Duke on Sept. 6, 2024.

His best numbers came during the 2021-23 seasons at Vanderbilt. In 2021 he threw for 1,042 yards with eight touchdowns and six interceptions. In 2022, he threw for 974 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions.

He’s also fleet on his feet, rushing for 517 yards and five touchdowns at Vanderbilt in 2022. He has 11touchdowns and 1,313 yards
