It didn’t take former East Carolina pitcher Lance Williams long to decide the next step in his college future.

Five days after announcing he would be leaving ECU and enter the transfer portal, Williams has reportedly committed to Maryland, according to a source who spoke with Diamondback Sports’ Michael Howes.
Howes posted to X on Sunday, “SCOOP: ECU right-hander Lance Williams has committed to Maryland, per source. The freshman made 25 appearances in 2025, earning a win in an NCAA regional start against No. 17 Florida on June 1. A massive get for the Terps — an electric arm with a fastball in the high 90s.”
Williams announced on Tuesday that he was leaving the Pirates. The right-handed freshman starting pitcher from Shenandoah, Va., was 3-1 with a 5.31 ERA in 40.2 innings this season. After taking an early-season loss to North Carolina, he picked up wins against Charlotte (April 13), UTSA (May 10) and against Florida in the NCAA Conway Regional on Sunday. He struck out 47 and walked 29, giving up 25 runs, 24 of them earned.
