ECU alum and St. Louis Cardinals star Alec Burleson is not expected to be used in the outfield this spring, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
CBSSports.com reports that reporter Daniel Guerrero reported as such despite an injury to outfielder Jordan Walker, who is out for a week with a knee issue. CBS and Guerrero report Burleson will stay at the designated hitter and first base rolls during Spring Training. That’s not to say he won’t play in the outfield during the regular season, however.
CBS reports in part, “The overwhelming majority of Burleson’s starts at the major-league level to this point have come in the outfield, but he’s slated to be the club’s primary DH versus righties this season while also seeing some action at first base on days Willson Contreras serves as the DH.”
