Shane Winkler picks up 100th win at ECU in sweep of UTSA

The East Carolina softball team wrapped up a sweep of UTSA on the road with Sunday’s 8-0 victory.

The Pirates (15-7, 3-0 AAC) won their fifth straight game. According to ECU Sports Information, this is the first time ECU has started 3-0 in the league since joining it. It was also head coach Shane Winkler’s 100th career win at ECU.

SAN ANTONIO – Annie Kate Dalton hit her third home run of the weekend as East Carolina defeated UTSA, 8-0, to sweep the Roadrunners on Sunday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

The Pirates (15-7, 3-0 AAC) won their fifth in a row and have started 3-0 in the American for the first time since joining the league.

The win was the 100th for head coach Shane Winkler at ECU.

ECU got on the board with a run in the top of the third after the Roadrunners committed an error and Logan SuttonKylee Schojan and Mary-Kathryn Scott each recorded two RBI hits to extend the Pirates’ lead to 7-0 in the top of the sixth.

Dalton added an insurance run in top of the seventh with her solo shot over the outfield wall and the Pirates forced UTSA into a double play in the bottom of the inning to record the sweep.

Jordan Hatch (1-0) picked up her first win of the year, tossing four strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
