CLEMSON, S.C. – The East Carolina softball team split its two games on the second day of the Tiger Invitational, defeating Lafayette, 8-0, in five innings before falling to Indiana, 8-2, at McWhorter Stadium on Saturday.
Game One: East Carolina 8, Lafayette 0 (5 inn.)
Four Pirates recorded multiple hits as East Carolina dispatched Lafayette 8-0 in five innings in the second day of the Pirate Invitational on Saturday morning at McWhorter Stadium.
Kanisha Anderson, Logan Sutton, Annie Kate Dalton and Morgan Johnson each tallied two hits at the plate as part of a 10-hit morning for the Pirates.
ECU blew the game open in the bottom of the third with a three-run bomb from Johnson followed by a solo home run from Dalton to give the Pirates a 5-0 lead. The Pirates tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the run-rule into play and Jordan Hatch handled Lafayette’s batters in the top of the fifth to preserve the shutout win for the Pirates.
Taylor Apple (5-2) picked up the win in the circle, tossing five strikeouts and allowing just one hit against 12 batters faced.
Game Two: Indiana 8, East Carolina 2
East Carolina fell 8-2 to Indiana in the Pirates’ second game of the day at the Tiger Invitational as the Hoosiers jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first inning and held the Pirates’ offense in check for most of the game.
