Pirates in baseball: Shawn Armstrong picks up second save for Rangers

by | May 16, 2025

East Carolina alum and Texas Rangers relief pitcher Shawn Armstrong is starting to get that ice water in his veins.

Armstrong picked up his second save of the season in a 1-0 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday. It was also his second save since Tuesday, when he came in to close out the Colorado Rockies in a 4-1 win.

Armstrong has been a reliever for several seasons but seems to be adjusting to the closer role pretty good so far as the Rangers’ current closer, Luke Jackson, looks to recover after an injury.

He got the first two outs before issuing a walk then got the final out on a pop-up.
