Pirates in baseball: Jeff Hoffman pitches, gets win for Blue Jays

by | May 18, 2025

Four days after blowing his second save of the season, Jeff Hoffman bounced back and got the win for the Toronto Blue Jays in a 2-1 decision over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday.

He pitched the ninth inning and walked one to lower his ERA to 5.75. He threw just 10 pitches, only one other for a ball after the walk.

The Blue Jays scored in the bottom of the ninth to give him the win, raising his record to 4-2.

On May 13 vs. the Tampa Bay Rays, he gave up five runs, including a grand slam, on four hits without recording an out. Since then, Toronto has had one game where a save was recorded by someone else. Yimi Garcia closed out the Jays’ 3-1 win over the Rays a day later.

Zach Agnos

He was one of just two pitchers who didn’t give up a run for the Rockies in a wild 14-12 win over the Diamondbacks.

He came on in the seventh inning and struck out two to get his second hold of the season. Before that, the Rockies had given up nine runs but led 13-9 by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh.

Danny Beal

He started Saturday’s 4-3 win over the New Jersey Jackals for the second straight win of the season for the Down East Bird Dawgs.

He went five innings, giving up three runs on five hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. He struck out all three batters in the first inning.
