Pirates in baseball: Jacob Jenkins-Cowart scores winning run for Beloit

by | Jun 21, 2025

The move from Low-A to High-A has been a struggle for East Carolina baseball alum Jacob Jenkins-Cowart. However, he played a big part in Friday’s win for Beloit in a 6-5 win over Cedar Rapids.

He was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. He walked with one out in the eighth inning, made it to third after teammate Emaarion Boyd was hit by a pitch and then scored what proved to be the winning run on a balk.

After the win, Jenkins-Cowart is batting .198 (34-for-172) with 26 runs, 20 RBI, two homers and 16 stolen bases.

Danny Beal

He started for the Down East Bird Dawgs but did not get the decision in Friday’s 7-6 come-from-behind win over Tri-City at Grainger Stadium in Kinston.

Beal went five innings, giving up four runs, all in the first inning, on seven hits with four walks and four strikeouts. He left with Down East trailing 4-2.

The Bird Dawgs scored five runs in the final four innings, including one in the ninth, to win it.

It was Beal’s third straight no-decision and fourth in his last five games. He is 0-2 with a 6.69 ERA in eight starts this season. He’s walked 20 and struck out 35 over 39 innings.
