Pirates in baseball: Gavin Williams doesn’t get run support, win

by | May 4, 2025

East Carolina baseball alum Gavin Williams did just about everything on Saturday but get the win.

The Cleveland Guardians’ pitcher started and went the first four innings, giving up two runs on seven hits with five walks and nine strikeouts. He gave up a solo homer to Toronto’s Bo Bichette in the first inning.

He was replaced in the fifth inning with the Blue Jays leading 2-0. Toronto tacked on another run in the fifth and Cleveland got one in the eighth before exploding for four runs in the top of the ninth inning to get the win.

Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman did not pitch on Saturday after getting the save in Friday’s win.
