Pirates in baseball: Could Carson Whisenhunt be next to be traded to Red Sox?

by | Jun 27, 2025

Carson Whisenhunt may get the chance to pitch in the majors after all this season. But it may not be for the team you expect.

The East Carolina baseball grad’s name has come up in another potential trade between his current club, the San Francisco Giants, and the Boston Red Sox. The Giants got Rafael Devers from the Red Sox for prospects a couple of weeks ago. Now, another trade may be in the making.

ClutchPoints.com writer Bailey Bassett proposed a trade the Giants cold make for outfielder Jarren Duran, who was an All-Star last season.

  • Red Sox receive: Carson Whisenhunt (Giants’ No. 2 prospect), Rayner Arias (Giants’ No. 7 prospect) and Carson Ragsdale (Giants’ No. 21 prospect)
  • Giants receive: Jarren Duran

Ryan McCrystal

The Reds prospect and Daytona catcher continued his hot June by going 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI in a 6-5 loss to Palm Beach.

He singled in a run in the second that tied the game at 2-2. In the fifth, he doubled in another run and later scored to give the Tortugas a 4-2 lead.

He’s now batting .299 for the season and .407 (22 for 54) in June.

Danny Beal

He got the win in a 10-7 outcome for the Down East Bird Dawgs at Mississippi.

Beal started and went five innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits with four walks and a season-high eight strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 6.55 and improved to 1-2 on the season.

Before the win, he had three no-decisions in his previous four games.
