Pirates in baseball: Connor Norby gets hit in head, scores winning run for Marlins

by | May 29, 2025

East Carolina baseball alum Connor Norby overcame a scary moment and helped the Miami Marlins to a 10-8 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday.

Norby was hit in the head with a pitch during an at-bat to start the eighth inning. He was able to continue playing and scored the go-ahead run on a single by Agustín Ramírez to give the Marlins a 9-8 lead.

Miami got one more run for the 10-8 final margin. The Marlins improved to 22-32 under manager Clayton McCullough, who is also an ECU alum.

Jeff Hoffman

The Toronto Blue Jays reliever picked up his 12th save of the season and second this week in a 2-0 victory over the Texas Rangers.

Hoffman came on in the ninth inning and struck out one to wrap up the win and lower his ERA to 5.55. He coaxed a flyout and pop out to first to end the game.

Hoffman picked up a save in Monday’s series opener. The two saves come after he was roughed up on May 22 against the Padres, where he gave up a two-run homer.
