Pirates in baseball: Carson Whisenhunt gets first Triple-A win of season

ECU alum and San Francisco Giants prospect Carson Whisenhunt bounced back from his opening-season loss earlier this week and recorded a victory on Saturday.

Whisenhunt led the Sacramento RiverCats to a 2-0 victory over Las Vegas. He pitched six innings for the win, gave up four hits and struck out two. He is now 1-1 with a 1.69 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched.

In his season opener on March 30, he took the loss after giving up two earned runs on a homer with nine strikeouts over 4.2 innings against Albuquerque.

The win evened Sacramento’s record to 4-4 on the season.

  • Connor Norby, Miami Marlins: On 10-day injured list for strained oblique.
  • Alec Burleson, St. Louis Cardinals: Rained out against Boston Red Sox. Doubleheader on Sunday
  • Shawn Armstrong, Texas Rangers: Did not pitch against Tampa Bay
  • Gavin Williams, Cleveland Guardians: Scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels.
  • Jeff Hoffman, Toronto Blue Jays: Pitched to one batter in the top of the ninth to get the final out in a 3-2 loss to the Mets.
  • Clayton McCullough, Miami Marlins (manager): Won 4-0 over the Atlanta Braves to improve to 5-4 on the season.

Triple-A

  • Carter Cunningham Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays): Was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in a 3-0 victory over Tri-City.
  • Josh Moylan, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): Was 1-for-4 with a walk in an 8-7 win over Jersey Shore.
  • Josh Grosz, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): Did not pitch against Jersey Shore
  • Tyler Bradt, Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals): Took the loss in an 8-6 game against Quad Cities. Pitched the eighth inning and gave up two runs, both earned, on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
  • Jacob-Jenkins-Cowart Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins): Did not play vs. St. Lucie.
  • Ryan McCrystal Daytona Tortugas (Reds): Played first base and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout at the plate in a 7-3 win over Bradenton.
  • Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman, Modesto Nuts (Mariners): Did not pitch vs. San Jose.
