Pirates in baseball: Alec Burleson’s big night lifts Cardinals past Royals

by | Jun 4, 2025

Alec Burleson has been swinging a hot bat over the past month. It continued Tuesday.

Playing in right field for the St. Louis Cardinals, the East Carolina baseball alum went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, a homer and a walk in a 10-7 loss to the Kansas City Royals. He singled and scored in the second inning on a homer by Nolan Gorman. In the third, he hit a two-run homer of his own for a 7-2 Cardinals’ lead.

Things went south from there as the Royals got six runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to win. He singled in the seventh and walked in the ninth but didn’t score.

He’s hitting .571 in two games in June after hitting .303 in May (20-for-66) with four doubles, four homers and 10 RBI.

Danny Beal

He had his best outing as a starter for the Down East Bird Dawgs but didn’t get the win Tuesday against the Quebec Capitales.

Beal went 5.2 innings with one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in a 5-2 loss at Grainger Stadium. He left with a 2-1 lead but the Capitales (18-4) scored three runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to win it.

The Bird Dawgs fell to 8-12. Beal dropped his ERA to 7.04 and is 0-1 in five starts with 21 strikeouts, 25 hits and 10 walks over 23 innings.
