The East Carolina softball team scored runs in bunches and then held on for a 14-10 victory over N.C. Central on Tuesday at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.
The win puts the Pirates at 17-10 overall going into a weekend series at South Florida.

Kanisha Anderson went 3-for-3 at the plate and Annie Kate Dalton hit a three-run home run as East Carolina held off a late rally to defeat N.C. Central, 14-10, on Tuesday night at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Jenna Krol had her best game in a Pirate uniform, going 2-for-2 while Brooke Masingale added a home run of her own in the bottom of the fourth.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after Makiya Graves’ two-run shot over the left center field wall but East Carolina scored three runs in the bottom of the first to regain control.

ECU kept pouring on the runs, plating six in the bottom of the second and the Pirates put the run-rule into play with another run in the bottom of the third.
Masingale’s two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth made it 12-2 but N.C. Central loaded the bases in the top of the fifth with just one out, putting pressure on ECU to extend the game.
The Eagles scored two runs and would make the game continue after a Pirate error allowed two more runs to cross home plate.

Three more runs from N.C. Central in the top of the sixth would cut ECU’s lead to three runs but ECU would catch a break as two errors committed by the Eagles after Anderson’s single allowed the Pirates to score two runs.
N.C. Central scored one more run in the top of the seventh but the Pirates were able to hold off the comeback as the Eagles left two runners on base.

Devin Long (2-0) picked up her second win of the season, allowing just one hit in two innings of work.
