The NCAA approved changes to the injury timeout rules in football that will start this season.
If a legitimate timeout is called for an injury after the ball is spotted, the player’s team will be charged a timeout. If there is no timeout, a five-yard penalty will be given.
In a media release, the NCAA said the proposal was made after concerns coaches were using the method to stop the opposing team’s momentum or to avoid using a timeout.
