Kendall Frost tossed five strikeouts in the circle for the Pirates (25-23, 10-11 AAC) who have dropped their fourth straight game.
Both teams struggled to find any offense through the first two and a half innings until the Pirates got two runners on in the bottom of the third to set up Johnson for the three-run blast.

NC State got on the board with a solo shot in the top of the fourth and the Wolfpack would go in front on a three-run shot in the top of the sixth inning.
Hailey Massaro hit a single in the top of the seventh and would advance to second base but with two outs the Pirates were unable to get the game-tying run across home plate.
