WICHITA, Kan. – Emma Jackson hit the go-ahead home run to help lift East Carolina past Wichita State in the season series finale, 5-3, in nine innings on Sunday afternoon at Wilkins Stadium.

Annie Kate Dalton added three hits and an RBI while Kanisha Anderson continued her strong play with two hits for the Pirates (24-19, 10-8 AAC) who snapped a three-game skid and defeated Wichita State for the first time since March 27, 2021.

Wichita State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead through two innings before Mary-Kathryn Scott’s solo homer in the top of the third got the Pirates on the board.

After the Shockers extended their lead to 3-1 going into the fourth inning, ECU hung around after Chloe Geijer’s sac fly scored Brooke Masingale to pull the Pirates back within a run.

Dalton’s RBI single in the top of the sixth scored Morgan Johnson to tie the game while Kendall Frost continued to shut down the bats for the Shockers, forcing 12 consecutive outs at the plate through the seventh inning.

After neither team could score in the eighth inning, Anderson singled up the middle in the top of the ninth and Jackson homered with a 2-1 count to put the Pirates in front 5-3.

Frost walked the first Wichita State batter in the bottom of the ninth, but the freshman quickly bounced back, retiring the next three batters for the Shockers as the Pirates avoid the series sweep.

Frost (10-11) tied a career-high with eight strikeouts in a career-high nine innings in the circle.
