HELP A PIRATE: Money being raised to assist ECU super fan

by | Aug 12, 2025

Pirates supporting Pirates is more than a slogan. That’s definitely true with this story.

Bethany L. Bradsher is a long-time writer and member of the Greenville community. She’s putting on a GoFundMe fundraiser to help a super ECU baseball fan who was the target of a scam.

Her GoFundMe page is “Assist Mike Radford: Pirate Superfan in Need.” She writes about Radford, a long-time fan of ECU baseball and a supporter of the Knights of Columbus, not only where he lives in Wilson but in nearby Clemmons.

He and his wife, Maureen, were the victims of a scam where they lost the vast majority of their retirement savings.

Overnight, they went from enjoying their retirement with a cushion for unexpected expenses to having to return to work and scrape together money for monthly bills. The scammers gained access to their accounts and took money out of an existing home equity loan, giving them debt they didn’t have before. Their financial future is now completely uncertain.”
