Harold Varner III at +1 after first round of LIV Golf Virginia tournament

East Carolina golf alum Harold Varner shot a +1 and is six shots off the lead after the first round of the LIV Golf Virginia at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va.

Bryson DeChambeau and Martin Kaymer share the lead at -5. Everyone overcame a 107-minute rain delay on Friday before conditions improved to finish play.

Varner is one of seven golfers who shot one-over par. He had bogeys at No. 8, 13 and 15 and hit a birdie at No. 14 and 17.

Varner’s 4Aces GC team is tied for second place at -7 with Crushers GC. Both are two shots behind RangeGoats GC. The 4Aces team is comprised of Varner, Dustin Johnson, Thomas Pieters and Patrick Reed.
