East Carolina golf alum Harold Varner III will be one of a number of golfers playing at 10 different sites with hopes of qualifying for the US Open.
Varner will be playing at Duke University Golf Club in Durham on Monday. The two-day event will help determine the final golfers who will be at the 125th US Open, which will be played June 12-15 at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. It’s a record 10th time Oakmont is hosting.
Only a select few have already qualified for the US Open. These 10 qualifying spots from all over the country will fill out the rest of the field.
While the final size of each field won’t be announced until Monday, we do know a number of golfers who will be at each site. According to USOpen.com, Webb Simpson of Charlotte will also play at Duke along with Bill Hass. There is expected to be 84 qualifiers in Durham.
