A former East Carolina University interim chancellor is facing charges in the death of a man in February in Raleigh.
WITN is reporting that Daniel Gerlach, who resigned from ECU in October 2019 after a video surfaced of him drinking with students in downtown Greenville, is facing charges in the death of Ethan Murillo-Ceron with his vehicle on Feb. 6.
WITN discovered through court documents that Gerlach was driving on Neuse Road in Raleigh just before 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. Murillo-Ceron was driving a motorcycle from the opposite direction and attempted to turn left. Gerlach did not yield the right-of-way and hit Murillo-Ceron, who died at the scene.
In addition to charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle, Gerlach was charged with fail to yield left turn. He was expected to make his first court appearance on March 4.
