Five home runs power Tulane over UTSA, 10-6, in AAC tourney

No. 5 Tulane powered its way to the next round of the AAC Tournament with five home runs in a 10-6 win over No. 1-seeded UTSA on Thursday.

CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 5 Tulane hit five home runs on the way to a 10-6 win over No. 1 UTSA Thursday afternoon, May 22, at the 2025 American Baseball Championship presented by Regions at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Fla.

The Roadrunners (43-12) will now face Florida Atlantic in an elimination game on Friday, May 23, at 1 p.m. Eastern on ESPN+. The Green Wave (32-24) will await the winner of that contest on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. Eastern on ESPN+.

Tulane’s five home runs were the second-most in Championship history and the most since UCF had seven against Memphis in 2021. The Green Wave have won eight consecutive games at the American Baseball Championship, including the last two titles.

The Green Wave struck first with four runs in the top of the third with Connor Rasmussen hitting a 2-run double and Matthias Haas hitting his fourth home of the season, a 2-run shot to right. USTA came right back in the bottom of the frame with two runs on a Mason Lytle RBI double and a Norris McClure RBI single.

James Agabedis III and Theo Bryant IV hit solo home runs for Tulane sandwiched a solo shot by Lytle for UTSA and Tulane led, 6-3, going into the bottom of the sixth, when the Roadrunners struck for three runs to tied the game at 6-6. Caden Miller singled home Andrew Stucky and Lorenzo Morresi followed two batters later with a 2-run single.

Agabedis hit his second home run of the day in the top of the eighth and Jason Wachs stepped up three baters later and hit a 2-run shot to right to push the lead to three at 9-6. Bryant added an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI single.

Tayler Montiel (5-2) picked up the win, allowing just one hit and no runs in 3.2 innings of relief for Tulane. UTSA’s Connor Kelley (3-1) took the loss, allowing two runs in 2.0 innings of relief.
