ECU to play men’s basketball game at UNC next season

The East Carolina men’s basketball team will make a unique trip to the University of North Carolina for a game during the 2025-26 season.

MadeForMarch.com announced the news on its X page on Friday, saying that the game will be on Dec. 22 in Chapel Hill. The X post reads, “North Carolina will host East Carolina on Monday December 22nd as part of its 2025-26 non-conference schedule. This is a buy game with an $85,000 guarantee.”

According to ECU’s Sports Information, the last time the two teams met was Dec. 7, 2014, in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels won, 108-64.

Before that, the two teams played on Jan. 15, 2012, with ECU falling 93-87. The first-ever meeting was in the NCAA Tournament, where the Tar Heels won 85-65 on March 18, 1993 in Winston-Salem.

UNC won the national title that season, beating Michigan, 77-71.
