The East Carolina softball dropped its home American Athletic Conference series opener on Friday evening, falling to Tulsa 5-1 at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Emma Jackson went 2-for-3 at the plate including a home run and Kanisha Anderson added two hits for the Pirates (15-9, 3-1 AAC) who left nine runners on base and were 1-for-9 at the plate with runners in scoring position for their second straight loss.

After walking the first Golden Hurricane batter, the Pirates bounced back with a strikeout and Annie Kate Dalton threw out the Tulsa runner attempting to steal on the same play to stop any early inning momentum for Tulsa.

Anderson and Jackson reached to start the bottom of the first but the Pirates were unable to get on the board, stranding both runners. Tulsa got on the board in the top of the second, loading the bases and plating five runs.

Jackson’s solo shot in the bottom of the third pulled the Pirates within four runs but ECU was unable to do any additional damage. The Pirates would have a chance to turn the game in the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and one out but ECU left all three runners on base as Tulsa maintained a 5-1 lead and took the series opener.

Kendall Frost (6-6) took the loss in the circle, tossing four strikeouts but giving up seven hits and five runs. Maura Moore (9-6) earned the win, allowing just the one run from the Pirates.
