East Carolina University backup quarterback Jake Garcia is entering the transfer portal.
Pirates Offensive Coordinator John David Baker confirmed the news after Tuesday’s football practice.
“He’s got a daughter and he’s got people that he cares about that he needs to take care of,” Baker said. “And so, it’s not just, it’s not just all a football decision, so he’s got to make some decisions and look for some things that are best for him and for his family.
“And, you know, I told him today, I said, “Man, I love you and I will do whatever I can to help you from now until forever.” And so, and he knows that, and so, sad to see him go. He’s been such a joy and such a great teammate to the people around him and to people at East Carolina.”
He was named the starting quarterback at the start of the season but was replaced by Kaitin Houser. Garcia was 109 of 181 for 1,426 yards, eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions last season.
