Dallas Cowboys draft ECU’s Shavon Revel in third round

by | Apr 26, 2025

The Dallas Cowboys chose former East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. in the third round of the NFL draft on Friday.

The Cowboys addressed a need at cornerback with his pick. The 6-foot-1 star was already expected to be a top pick before last season started. He tore his left ACL and had surgery. Doctors say he’ll be 100% when healed but some think he’ll start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

“Hey, I know it’s crazy, though I put on a whole blue suit — a full blue suit,” said Revel, according to DallasCowboys.com, on Friday. “I was like, Hey, it might be a chance I go to them ‘Boys. It was kind of crazy though, because me and my family were talking about it the whole time, the whole month, this whole year, just talking about it like, ‘It might be a chance.’”

Patrik Walker of DallasCowboys.com wrote in part about his pick, “The size-to-speed combination is eye-popping on Revel, and his 6-foot-1 frame comes equipped with a long wingspan to boot. Additionally, he doesn’t shy away from tackles, but rather the opposite, thriving when he is allowed to press and get his hands on receivers at the line of scrimmage. Revel plays sideline to sideline but has enough speed and stride to carry receivers up the field, and he’s beginning to come into his own as a potential ballhawk — owner of two career interceptions that exceeded 50 yards of return thereafter at East Carolina.”

Despite that, the Cowboys saw enough talent in him to take a chance with his injury.

“Right now, I’m running in a straight line,” said Revel. ” I can lift heavy. I’m lifting heavy. I’m running in a straight line. Haven’t gotten to the brakes and cutting yet, but I’ve been cleared by Dr. Cooper to at least progress my way up into doing things like that.

“So now that I’ve got time now, whenever I go back home or when I ever get to the facility, I’ll work on those things.”
