The New York Yankees traded for one of the Miami Marlins’ young prospects last season. Could they do it again?
YardBarker’s Jacob Mountz reports the Yankees could find a way to trade for East Carolina alum and Marlins 3B Connor Norby. Last season, the Yankees got Jazz Chisholm Jr., in a trade. He’s currently batting .181 with seven homers, 17 RBI and 17 runs.
Since the Yankees can never seemingly have enough talent on the main roster, picking up Norby doesn’t seem far-fetched. Mountz mentioned that in addition to Chisholm, none of the potential third base options for the Yankees is batting over .200. With Oswaldo Cabrera out for the season, filling the void remains the concern for Yankees GM Brian Cashman.
Going into Sunday, Norby was batting .261 with 19 runs, 16 RBI and three homers. The 24-year-old hit .272 (25-for-92) with nine runs, 13 RBI and two homers during May.
“The Marlins, who once again sit at the bottom of the NL East, will undoubtedly be sellers at the trade deadline,” Mountz wrote. “Norby, who combines plus power and exceptional contact-hitting talent with ample speed, will likely receive plenty of attention if he continues on his current trajectory. As things stand, Norby would represent a vast improvement over the Yankees’ existing options.”
