Blue Jays looking good with decision to sign Jeff Hoffman

by | Apr 17, 2025

The Toronto Blue Jays had issues with their bullpen last season. While those issues aren’t completely solved, one player certainly has helped the cause.

BlueJaysNation.com wrote an extensive story on how they decided not to keep reliever Jordan Romano, who had served in the role since 2021. The Canadian-born righthander ended up with the Phillies. On the flip side, the Jays got ECU alum Jeff Hoffman, who left the Phillies.

Hoffman came to Toronto after the Orioles and Braves opted not to sign him due to concerns about his shoulder. He’s shown that is not an issue with a 2-0 record, an ERA under 2.00 (1.74) and four saves in seven games. He also has 14 strikeouts, a walk and six hits given up.

Nick Prasad wrote in part, “Hoffman has shown nothing but reliability so far this season and has not caused any anxiety when summoned late in the game. His Statcast metrics feature a lot of positive values above the 80th percentile line, and he’s mixing his pitches well, with every offering sitting at or above the zero run value line.”
