To watch former East Carolina baseball star and current Toronto Blue Jays prospect Trey Yesavage pitch lately, you’d believe there’s not a flaw in his routine.
Currently, you’d be almost right. He had 12 strikeouts in Tuesday’s 11-3 win over Bradenton. It was his professional career high, and he dropped his ERA to 2.43. He has struck out seven or more batters in his last five games and overall has 55 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.
BlueJaysJournal.com points out that, as good as Yesavage has been, he had one problem early on that needed sorting out. In his first minor league start, he had six walks with four strikeouts.
Since then, he has 51 strikeouts and two walks. Both of those walks came on April 25 at Tampa, when he also struck out 10.
Baron Dionis wrote in part, “And, after getting off to a bit of a rough start in his first taste of professional baseball, Yesavage has completely turned things around and cleared up the problems that he had in walking too many batters.”
