The East Carolina softball team recorded a pair of wins on Wednesday evening, first defeating UNCW 7-5 behind four home runs and then taking down N.C. Central 9-3 in the night cap contest at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

Game One: East Carolina 7, UNCW 5
Four Pirates each hit a home run in the bottom of the third as East Carolina built a 6-2 lead before holding off a late rally to defeat UNCW 7-5 on Wednesday evening at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

UNCW jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a two Rbi single after getting runners on via drawing walks but ECU answered in the bottom of the first with a single RBI from Anna Sawyer and a sac fly from Logan Sutton to tie the game at 2-2.

The Pirates’ home run barrage began in the bottom of the third as Morgan Johnson, Sawyer, Sutton and Massaro all went yard to extend ECU’s lead to 6-2. Kanisha Anderson advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Seahawk error to make the score 7-2 in the bottom of the fourth.

The Seahawks gained momentum after a Pirate error allowed one run to score and UNCW hit a two RBI triple to pull within two runs.

Taylor Apple (4-2) picked up the win in the circle for ECU and Kendall Frost tossed four strikeouts to pick up her second save of the season.

Game Two: East Carolina 9, N.C. Central 3
Kanisha Anderson went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI as East Carolina built another early inning lead to defeat N.C. Central, 9-3, on Wednesday night at Max R. Joyner Family Stadium.

ECU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first before N.C. Central scored three runs in the second and third innings off of starter Ava Fisher to pull the Eagles within one run.

The Pirates tacked on a run in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 6-3 and Trinity Nichols’ two RBI single pushed ECU’s lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth. Joie Fittante scored an insurance run with an RBI single to score Nichols to make the score 9-3 heading into the seventh.

After N.C. Central got a runner on base, Devin Long got the next three batters out to seal the win for ECU.

Long (1-0) picked up her first career win, tossing six strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work.
