Zach Agnos: From college infielder to Rockies’ closer

by | May 18, 2025

Anyone who follows East Carolina baseball knew what kind of athlete Zach Agnos was.

In 2022, he was a shortstop who batted .330 over 312 plate appearances. He also pitched 23.1 innings and had a 2.31 ERA.

The Colorado Rockies saw Agnos more for his pitching potential than hitting. He was drafted in the 10th round and has made his way to the Rockies, picking up two saves this season. He is 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA in 10 games and 12 innings. He’s struck out seven and has a 1.00 WHIP.

However, as DenverGazette.com writer Kevin Henry writes, he thinks he can still has the talent to take a crack again at hitting, if needed.

“I think I can still hit,” Agnos said to Henry. “But, as soon as I got to pro ball, I was throwing bullpens and working on pitch design and really developing as a pitcher. I think that’s when it finally settled in that I’m a pitcher now.”
