East Carolina and Coastal Carolina have agreed to extend their regional non-conference football series through the 2034 season, the two institutions announced Tuesday. The extended series includes seven games over the next eight seasons, with ECU hosting four contests at Bagwell Field inside Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium and Coastal Carolina hosting three games at Benton Field inside Brooks Stadium.

The Pirates will welcome the Chanticleers to Greenville in 2028 (Sept. 9), 2030 (Sept. 21) 2032 (Sept. 11) and 2034 (TBD). ECU will travel to Conway, S.C., in 2027 (Sept. 25), 2031 (Sept. 13) and 2033 (TBD).

“We are excited to continue and expand our regional non-conference series with Coastal Carolina,” ECU Athletics Director Jon Gilbert said. “The close proximity between our two institutions, combined with the passion and pride of our respective fan bases, makes this a natural matchup and a tremendous opportunity for our programs. We look forward to building on this series and creating exciting experiences for our student-athletes, alumni and fans for years to come.”

The upcoming games will add to a series that has already produced a pair of memorable matchups. The programs first met in the 2022 TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 27, with the Pirates earning a 53-29 victory to claim the 10th bowl win in program history. ECU also posted a 38-0 shutout victory over Coastal Carolina last season in Conway, giving the Pirates a 2-0 all-time record against the Chanticleers.

Coastal Carolina is one of four announced non-conference opponents on ECU’s 2027 schedule, joining Western Carolina (Sept. 4, home), Georgia State (Sept. 11, home) and Northwestern (Sept. 18, road). The Chanticleers also become the fourth announced opponent on ECU’s 2030 non-conference schedule, joining Norfolk State (Aug. 31, home), South Carolina (Sept. 7, road) and Old Dominion (Sept. 14, road).

The extended series continues ECU’s commitment to regional non-conference competition while providing Pirate fans with additional opportunities to see the program compete against a nearby opponent in the Carolinas.
