If you saw last week’s game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, you know where we’re going with this.
ECU football alum Keaton Mitchell got to play in the backfield for the Ravens last Sunday, after missing the first four games. He had three carries for eight yards in a 44-10 loss. Before that, he was listed on the team’s inactive list due to non-injury, meaning he was a healthy scratch. Previously, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he just didn’t have room for Mitchell on the field.
“We just don’t have the spot right now,” Harbaugh said. “I guess in some ways, that’s a good problem to have, but I would much rather see him out there and see him active on gameday.”
Heyen also reports that earlier in the season, Harbaugh said Mitchell is essentially good right now for “designer plays,” but not the full flow of an offense.
LastWordOnSports.com’s Isaac Zuniga reports the Ravens are already in a fire sale mode at 1-4, trading away top pash rusher Odafe Oweh. It also reports that Mitchell is too far down the depth chart to make an impact with the Ravens.
“According to Connor Burke of the Ebonybird, Mitchell is the “odd man out” in Baltimore, stating the 23-year-old speedster has the potential but hasn’t been given many opportunities behind a loaded running back room.”
So Zuniga suggests the Bears need to trade for Mitchell. Chicago has a key game with Washington on Monday and with the team sporting the 24th rush offense in the NFL, he could fill a glaring hole.
“No matter what happens, something has to change in the backfield for the Bears. Whether they trade for someone like Mitchell or start to incorporate other running backs, the Bears need to get the run game going, or else they’ll be in trouble.”
