Tulane run-rules East Carolina in series opener, 20-5

The East Carolina baseball team was run-ruled by Tulane on Friday as the Green Wave got nine runs in the first inning in a 20-5 win at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

Tulane scored nine runs in the first inning on the way to a 20-5 victory over East Carolina in the opener of an American Athletic Conference series Friday night inside Lewis Field at Clark-LeClair Stadium.

The Green Wave (25-17, 9-7 AAC) owned a 14-7 advantage in the hit column as Gavin Schultz and Kaikea Harrison combined to go 6-for-10 with eight runs scored and seven RBI. As for the Pirates (24-18, 9-7 AAC), Nick Parham registered his first career home run while Jack Herring notched a team-best two hits.

Luc Fladda (3-4) pitched a complete seven-inning game, giving up five runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Brad Pruett (3-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing nine runs on six hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Tulane jumped out to the early lead, scoring seven of its nine first-inning runs with two outs, before putting up three in the third, two in the fourth and sixth in the fifth. ECU got to Fladda in the fifth, hitting three home runs to break up the shutout. Parham recorded a one-out solo shot before Dixon Williams drilled a three-run long ball to right center and Michael Kalinich followed with a round tripper of his own down the right field line.

Neither team dented the scoreboard in the final two frames with a Michael Lombardi one-out walk in the sixth the lone base runner between the sides.
