Three ECU football players suspended after shooting gun in air

WITN-TV is reporting three ECU football players have been suspended after Greenville police arrested them for shooting a gun in the air within the city’s limits.

Brock Spalding, J.D. Lampley and Preston Carr were arrested on Sunday, WITN reports. Police went to 218 Locust Drive just before 6 a.m. on Sunday to a report of shots fired. When police arrived, they spoke with Lampley, 21, and Carr, 22. Both admitted to shooting a gun, police said.

A police report states Spalding, 21, initially refused to respond to officers’ attempts to make contact, staying inside the home and refusing to make contact. ECU Athletics told WITN in a statement all three have been suspended.

ECU Athletics is aware of the arrests of three members of our football team, and we are continuing to gather information,” the athletic department said in a statement to WITN. “All three individuals have been suspended indefinitely from all team activities.”

Lampley and Carr are defensive linemen while Spalding is a receiver.
