ECU alum Connor Norby connected quickly for his first home run of Spring Training on Monday.
The Miami Marlins third baseman hit a two-out home run on a 2-1 pitch in the first inning for his first blast of the spring. It was part of the Marlins’ 10-5 win over the Washington Nationals on Monday.
Norby went 1-for-4 with his run and RBI and is batting .286 in the spring.
Jacob Jenkins-Cowart got to bat for the Marlins in its other spring training game on Monday. The Marlins split squad also faced the Nationals in a 9-9 tie.
Jenkins-Cowart came on in the seventh as a pinch runner for Griffin Conine then took over in right field. He was erased on a force place in the seventh.
He got an at-bat in the ninth inning and struck out. It was just his second at-bat in Spring Training.
He’ll play for Jupiter to start the minor league season.
