Jeff Hoffman’s first action
Jeff Hoffman got his first Spring Training action as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday against the Detroit Tigers.
The ECU alum came on in the sixth inning and struck out a batter to end it. Before that, he forced a groundout and hit a batter — who was later thrown out trying to steal second.
Toronto won the game, 10-7.
Armstrong struggles
ECU alum Shawn Armstrong blew his first save with the Texas Rangers in an 8-8 tie with the Chicago Cubs. He pitched the ninth inning and gave up two runs, none earned, on two hits with a strikeout. A fielding error led to the Cubs’ first run while a hit scored the second.
