Former East Carolina football star Ryan Jones has been placed on the retired list after a bad lower-body injury during a CFL preseason game with the Calgary Stampeders.
Jones, who was a tight end with the Pirates, suffered a broken leg in the second half of the May 19 preseason game with the BC Lions, a 26-16 loss. The 6-foot-3 Jones, who is from Charlotte, played in the one preseason game after signing with the team following a stint in the NFL with the New York Giants.
At ECU, he had 78 catches for 855 yards and nine touchdowns.
