Pirates in baseball: Trey Yesavage returns to mound, no-hits Yard Goats, gets no decision

by | Jul 27, 2025

Trey Yesavage was back on the mound for the first time in two weeks and looked good, too.

The ECU baseball alum had not pitched since the MLB Futures All-Star Game, where he struck out the only batter he faced. The extra time off must have worked because he was bringing it for the New Hampshire FisherCats against the Hartford Yard Goats.

Yesavage went four innings, gave up no runs and no hits with five strikeouts and no walks. He struck out all three batters in the first inning and dropped his ERA to 5.14 with the outing.

The only thing he didn’t get was the win. Despite leaving with a 3-0 lead, he did not get the decision.

Gavin Williams

It was another case of pitching good enough to win but not getting it.

The Cleveland Guardians pitcher went six innings in his latest start, this time against the Kansas City Royals. He gave up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. He left with the Royals leading 2-1.

Cleveland tied it at 2-2 in the seventh and took a 3-2 lead in the 10th before the Royals got three runs to win it, 5-3.

Shawn Armstrong

After giving up a run in the ninth inning, he came back in the 10th inning and earned the win for the Texas Rangers against the Atlanta Braves.

Atlanta took a 5-4 lead in the ninth before Texas scored a run to send the game to extra innings. The Rangers won it, 6-5, with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th.

Armstrong improved to 4-3 after pitching two innings, striking out two and giving up a hit and run. His ERA is now 3.02.

Carter Cunningham

He 1-for-3 with two walks, his 10th homer of the season and three runs scored in a 5-3 win in 10 innings over Eugene.

He homered in the sixth for Vancouver’s first run, cutting the deficit to 3-1. He walked and later scored in the eighth to make it 3-2.

He started out at second base in the 10th inning and scored on a home run by teammate Sean Keys for the final margin.
