Pirates in baseball: Gavin Williams, Trey Yesavage go on mound tonight

by | Aug 1, 2025

Two former ECU baseball pitchers will be on the mound for their respective teams again on Friday.

In Cleveland, Gavin Williams (6-4, 3.51 ERA, 109 strikeouts) will pitch for the Guardians against the Royals. He gave up two runs on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a no-decision against Kansas City last Saturday.

In Chesapeake, Md., Trey Yesavage (1-1, 5-14 ERA, 28 strikeouts in Double-A) will take the mound for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. After a two-week break following the MLB Futures All-Star Game, he came back on July 26 and pitched well enough to win but didn’t get the decision. He went four innings, struck out five and did not give up a walk or hit.

Another pitcher who isn’t slated to go today but will pitch this weekend is Carson Whisenhunt. He’s scheduled to go for the San Francisco Giants at the New York Mets on Sunday. He had his Major League Baseball debut last Monday.

Ryan McCrystal

He had another big night for Dayton in a 3-2 loss to West Michigan.

McCrystal batted 2-for-4 to raise his average to .438 since arriving and playing for the Dragons from Daytona.
