Pirates in baseball: Carson Whisenhunt, Trey Yesavage shine in latest outings

ECU alumni Carson Whisenhunt and Trey Yesavage each had a solid outing on the mound for their respective minor league teams during Saturday’s play.

Whisenhunt improved his record to 2-2 with a 5-0 win by the Sacramento River Cats over the Salt Lake Bees. He pitched six innings, gave up no runs on a hit with a walk and nine strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.70 with the outing.

Yesavage didn’t factor in the decision in the Dunedin Blue Jays’ 12-3 win over Lakeland. He pitched five innings, gave up three runs on four hits and struck out 10 without a walk. He left with the Blue Jays trailing 3-1. They scored seven runs in the sixth inning to take the lead for good.

  • Connor Norby, Miami Marlins: Came in as a pinch-runner then played 3B in an 11-10 loss to Phillies. Was 0-for-2 with 2 runs. Scored in the sixth and ninth.
  • Alec Burleson, St. Louis Cardinals: 0-for-3 with a walk in 3-0 loss to Mets.
  • Shawn Armstrong, Texas Rangers: Did not pitch in 4-3 win over Dodgers
  • Gavin Williams, Cleveland Guardians: Did not pitch in 3-0 win over Pirates.
  • Jeff Hoffman, Toronto Blue Jays: Did not pitch in 8-4 loss to Mariners.
  • Clayton McCullough, Miami Marlins (manager): Team lost 11-10 to Phillies to drop to 8-12.

Triple-A

  • Carson Whisenhunt, Sacramento RiverCats (San Francisco Giants): See above
  • Zach Agnos, Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies): Game vs. El Paso rained out. Doubleheader on Sunday.

Double-A

  • Carter Spivey, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): Pitched 2.1 innings, gave up a solo homer, two hits and struck out one.
  • Trey Benton, Akron Rubber Ducks (Guardians): On season-ending disabled list

Single-A

  • Trey Yesavage, Dunedin Blue Jays (Blue Jays): See above
  • Carter Cunningham, Vancouver Canadians (Blue Jays): Did not play in 5-2 loss to Eugene
  • Josh Moylan, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): Was 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk in an 8-0 win over Wilmington. He doubled in two runs to give Hudson Valley a 5-0 lead. He later scored to push the lead to 7-0.
  • Josh Grosz, Hudson Valley Renegades (Yankees): Did not pitch in 8-0 win over Wilmington
  • Tyler Bradt, Peoria Chiefs (Cardinals): Did not pitch in 4-1 loss to Cedar Rapids.
  • Jacob-Jenkins-Cowart, Jupiter Hammerheads (Marlins): 1-for-4 with a double in 4-2 win over Daytona.
  • Ryan McCrystal, Daytona Tortugas (Reds): Did not get a hit as a pinch hitter in 4-2 loss to Jupiter
  • Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman, Modesto Nuts (Mariners): Placed on full-season disabled list on April 15.
  • Erik Ritchie, Clearwater Threshers (Phillies): Did not pitch in 4-2 loss to Palm Beach.
