NFL training camps always seem to bring out the position battles.
The Denver Broncos seem to have things locked up with Patrick Surtain II. The question now is who plays in the other two spots. SI.com’s Erick Trickel notes three people are battling for two spots. One of those players is ECU alum Ja’Quan McMillian.
McMillian was a starter last season and even had a memorable interception for a touchdown against Jameis Winston and the Cleveland Browns. McMillian has four career interceptions in two seasons with the Broncos.
“Ja’Quan McMillian is still on the roster, and he won’t sit back and lose a starting job,” Trickel reports.
Trickel reports McMillian could stick with the team and start in the slot. Riley Moss would play during nickel packages. There’s also Kris Abrams-Draine, who played well at times. Trickel also reports McMillian could be traded.
“The only player in the group who doesn’t have the versatility to play multiple spots is McMillian, who is limited as a slot-only cornerback. His size and length are the most significant drawbacks to this, but he also struggles with zone coverage, which the Broncos need from their boundary cornerbacks,” Trickel reports.
