Harold Varner III’s big day moves him up leaderboard

by | Jun 8, 2025

After a somewhat slow start in the first round of the LIV Golf Virginia tournament on Friday, East Carolina golf alum Harold Varner III made up for it with a big day on Saturday.

Varner shot a -5 and is tied for 14th place after the second round. He’s now at -4, seven shots off the lead. He’s tied with 4Aces GC teammate Dustin Johnson and one shot behind teammate Thomas Pieters, who is at -5 overall.

One of the main reasons Varner did so well on Saturday was his approach to the par-4 holes. He made birdies on six holes, five of them on par-4 holes. That came after getting a bogey on No. 1.

While he had a good Saturday, the same can’t be said for his teammates. As a result, the 4Aces GC group is third in team scoring at -13. Crushers GC leads at -21.
