Harold Varner III had a much better second round at the LIV Golf Chicago event and is tied for 18th going into Sunday’s final round.
The ECU golf alum shot a -2 on Saturday, taking advantage of five birdies to climb back into contention. He got the birdies on No. 6, 7, 14, 15 and 18. Along the way, he had bogeys at No. 9 and No. 11.
He started on Friday with a +1.
Varner is now seven shots behind the lead, currently held by Dean Burmester. He tied Carlos Ortiz for the best round of the day at -6.
In the team competition, Varner’s 4Aces GC is currently fifth at -4, six shots behind first-place Crushers GC. Varner, Dustin Johnson, Thomas Pieters and Patrick Reed make up the team.
